The ARI Wellness Platform is a connected, no-contact vital sign screening service using a multi-sensor device, called the WellnessDetector™ and a HIPAA Compliant Cloud infrastructure, called the WellnessOS™.

The WellnessDetector™ uses patented and patent-pending fusion algorithms to intelligently combine and integrate the information provided by its sensors (Thermal Imaging, Radar, Camera and Thermocouple) to provide accurate “wellness” readings including temperature, respiratory lung and heart waveforms.  The wellness readings are displayed locally, and the unidentifiable data is fed to the WellnessOS™ via an encrypted VPN connection and can only be accessed remotely for trouble shooting using certificate based SSH.

The WellnessOS™ provides the provisioning, management, real-time and historical reporting of all the deployed WellnessDetectors. The WellnessOS™ also uses Cloud Analytics, Machine Learning and Neural Networking (Deep Learning) to analyze all of the data coming from the WellnessDetectors enabling comparative and predictive analytics as well as the constant refinement and improvement for the multi-sensor fusion algorithms which are deployed in the WellnessDetector™

Multiple Sensors – One Detector

By combining multiple sensing technologies into one detection device, called the WellnessDetector™, the device is able to detect wellness indicators beyond just temperature. This includes atypical respiratory lung and heart function along with breathing abnormalities.

The WellnessDetector™ includes:

  • A high-resolution camera, which can be turned off and physically blocked prior to deployment to environments where identity is unimportant, or privacy is paramount
  • A thermal imagining sensor, specifically a Radiometric Uncooled VOx Microbolometer, which uses received infrared frequencies to accurately measure the temperature of a detection subject. This accuracy can be greatly improved if the exact distance to the subject is known via sensor fusion with the radar sensor and sensor fusion with the thermocouple to allow understanding of the ambient environment where the sensor is located
  • A low-energy mmWave multi-transceiver radar system. This sensor uses Micro-Doppler signal processing to discern heart and respiratory waveforms by measuring a subject’s tiny/minute chest movements
  • A thermocouple ascertaining the ambient environment where the WellnessDetector™ is located.

True Functional Integration

WellnessDetector™ delivers true functional integration of multiple sensing technologies, using multiple patented and patent-pending approaches. It integrates thermal imaging, short range radar and an environmental sensor together with signal processing (micro doppler), deep learning, and fusion modeling to build a remote detection device that is truly unique.  For example, it uses radar to determine a person’s exact distance from the thermal imagining sensor to maximize the accuracy of the sensor and normalizes this reading to account for ambient conditions by leveraging the environmental thermocouple sensor. Similarly, the WellnessDetector™ uses radar to arrive at breathing and heart waveforms, together with pattern analysis and anomaly detection to indicate an aberrant or a peculiar respiratory and heart functionality. This integration allows the WellnessDetector™ to detect a person’s presence to start the screening, to identify the distance from the person to the sensor, to understand whether the person is wearing glasses or a mask, to know the current ambient conditions and to accurately determine a person’s temperature, heart and respiratory readings, all completely unattended.

Leveraging Cloud – Scale, Security and Integration

WellnessOS™ is a scalable and secure cloud-based solution with multi-tenant support, tiered data access, customized reporting and live device access for remote screening.  Each cloud tenant can individually integrate with 3rd party solutions using customizable APIs. IoT Management is used to automatically provision and update a WellnessDetector™ when it first comes online.

Once operational, data from an organizations’ WellnessDetectors™ are securely fed to the WellnessOS™ where all data is stored in a data lake. Periodically, relevant data (at that time) is ETL-ed to the data warehouse and optimally stored for processing by the WellnessOS™s’ analytics engines to deliver organizational-wide, regional and individual WellnessDetector reporting, including comparative and predictive analytics.

Continuous Learning & Algorithm Improvement – All WellnessDetector™ data is also anonymously fed into Machine Learning / Deep Learning models that run the same Sensor Fusion algorithms that run in a WellnessDetectors™ software. Sensor Fusion algorithms are then refined using learning, based on every WellnessDetector™ in production, improving accuracy, identifying anomalies and adding additional functionality such seasonal or regional environmental changes. New Fusion models are able be deployed to WellnessDetectors™ using the same IoT Management that provisions the device and pushes software updates.
